AI slop is a choice

Generic AI content isn't an accident. It's a decision someone made about your brand, often without asking you.

Slop isn't "content made with AI." Slop is content with no owner — nobody checked it, nobody meant it, nobody would defend it in front of you. The tool didn't decide that. A person did, by deciding not to look.

Why it happens

Follow the incentives. If work is measured by activity and nobody outside the vendor can see it, twenty forgettable posts can look like productivity. When the work is invisible, it's hard to tell whether an hour was spent thinking about your customers or a draft was generated in a minute and shipped unread. The fix for that isn't trust. It's visibility.

How to spot it on your own account

  • Everything reads the same — your plumbing company sounds like a life coach who sounds like a skincare brand.
  • Nothing is specific: no prices, no place names, no actual jobs you did, no opinions.
  • Volume went up. Conversations about results got vaguer.
  • Nobody can tell you who reviewed a given piece or who approved it.
  • Your name is on things you've never seen.

The fix isn't banning AI

Hand-typing every word again isn't virtue; it's just slower slop if nobody's making calls. The fix is accountability: every piece has a person who reviewed it and an owner who said yes before it published. AI with that review is leverage. AI without it is a liability wearing your logo.
